How to Use HoneyBook Smart Files

HoneyBook Smart Files – What are they? How do they work? How do you get started with them? I have been asked all of these questions. HoneyBook Smart Files is essentially a new way to do multiple steps within one file itself.

In this video, I want to talk all about HoneyBook Smart Files.  It’s a hot topic right now and I want to dive in together on this! I’m going to give you a brief tutorial, behind the scenes on how to actually start using Smart Files in your own business. And we’ll talk about what things you can do within Smart Files currently and what things you can’t do. We’ll even cover how to start getting them built in your workflows.

One Stop Shop

Now, a lot of people were saying, ‘I would love to have a way for people to come in, choose what package they want, sign their contract, pay their invoice, and then be done.’ And in the past, there wasn’t a way to do that in HoneyBook, but now there is!

How to Get Started

You can get started with Smart Files by just building them from scratch. However, I would really encourage you to start taking advantage of the template gallery. There are a ton of options in there based on what you need.

So let’s say you could really use help with your pricing guide and services. You’ll enter that in the search bar and it will narrow down the templates that are available for you to use. You can then take a peek at the different templates that others have already built and contributed to the Smart Files template within HoneyBook. Then all you have to do is click “edit” and start customizing the template to fit your business’ needs.


What I love about Smart Files is that they are so customizable! As you get into editing your Smart File, you’ll see all of the different options that you’re given! Side Note: Don’t forget to make sure that you have your company settings already inputted into HoneyBook on the front end! That will make this process even more simple for you as it basically customizes it for you (brand colors, logo, etc).

Another neat feature is that you can put in the logos of what you’ve been featured in, which is a nice add-in! Also, your Smart File pages can be ordered in whatever way you choose. So, if you’d like your contract after your services tab and before your invoice tab, great! You can do that! It’s so customizable, so you can play around with it until you figure out what you like best! However, make sure you’re clicking save from time-to-time, to ensure you don’t lose any of your work.


In the video, I am giving you the behind-the-scenes of how to start streamlining the work of smart files. When you can add these different pages and then eliminate extra steps for your clients and extra steps for you as the business owner, it’s the best-case scenario! It’s all about the client experience!

Don’t be afraid to start building out the smart file for yourselves! Now, you could also start with a much simpler smart file, like a questionnaire or an invoice template alone, or a contract alone if you want.
